Dr. James Owings, a native Greenvillian, joined his father, Dr.James Owings Sr. and began his practice of Periodontics in 1970. He is a graduate of Wofford College and Emory University, where he earned his dental and Periodontics training. He served on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania and is a diplomat of The American Board of Periodontics. His experience with dental implants encompasses their thirty years of development and he is delighted with the benefits that implants offer our patients.

Dr. Owings is also the director of The Upstate Study Club, an affiliate of the national group, The Seattle Study Club. This group consists of local dentists and specialists who meet monthly as part of their continuing education to enhance their knowledge base and clinical skills by which an interdisciplinary approach to treatment planning benefits our mutual patients.

As a new patient in our practice, you will find yourself comforted by his caring and gentle demeanor as he reviews your dental, as well your medical history, to address your current periodontic needs. Our communication with your referring dentist is a part of the team approach we take to meet your goals.

Dr. Owings is a family oriented man who loves to spend time with his grown children and grandchildren as well as his extended family of friends and colleagues. He enjoys traveling, raising cattle and fishing. There’s always a good cattle story to share if you ask him!
